How does a mold dog inspection work?
It’s fascinating! Mold releases tiny odor compounds that trained mold detection dogs can detect even when the source isn’t visible.
In addition to our dog Hee-do’s scent detection work, we do a comprehensive interior and exterior visual inspection so you can better understand what may be going on in your space.
CERTIFIED MOLD DETECTION DOG
Our mold dog was personally trained by Bill Whistine, widely recognized as the top mold detection dog trainer in the US. On top of his training, Hee-do also receives regular recertification to keep his skills sharp.

Yes. We inspect condos, townhomes, apartments, and other multi-unit properties throughout Santa Barbara County. Because we're based in the San Francisco Bay Area, we often group appointments in the region and recommend reaching out in advance so we can coordinate scheduling.
-
It varies. Most inspections take from two to three hours, depending on the property size, layout, and accessibility.
-
You do not! You’re welcome to stay during the inspection. To avoid interfering with our mold dog’s ability to detect odors, we ask that pets, heavily scented products, and cleaning activities be limited while we’re on-site.
We’ll also provide a few simple prep instructions beforehand to help everything run smoothly on the day of the inspection.
-
Of course. We often work with renters who suspect mold and want clarity on the condition of their space.
-
Pricing depends on property size, layout, and accessibility. Most inspections are completed in a single visit, and we provide clear pricing before scheduling so you know what to expect. As Santa Barbara is outside of our immediate area, we do charge for travel. Please reach out for a quote!

A trained mold detection dog can quickly scan large areas and locate hidden odor sources that may be missed during visual inspections, air tests, and ERMIs alone. This helps narrow down problem areas before considering invasive testing or repairs.

Yes. While older homes in this area often have a longer moisture history, newer homes aren’t immune. Leaks, condensation, and ventilation issues can still lead to mold growth in hidden areas like behind walls and under flooring.
A mold detection dog inspection helps identify areas where mold-related odors may be present without invasive testing.
